Magazine House Style Plan

Magazine House Style Plan Most magazine have a specific "house style" that all of their issues follow. This can mean that the page numbers are presented the same, the same fonts are used, the table of contents is the same, etc. When my partner and I were looking through magazines for our research, we discovered that a specific magazine that we liked did not follow this usual rule. The Taste of Homes magazine did not seem to have any specific features in common with each other, besides the fact that they all contained food related articles. In each edition the table of contents, fonts, and articles were presented in a different way. My partner and I liked this and decided to follow the same plan for our magazine. While our main article fonts and font size will be the same, we plan to create different cover pages and table of contents. This way each issue of our magazine is a little different and gives the reader a surprise each time they grab a new edition.

Photo Shoot- Shore

SUNDAY BRUNCH AT SHORE For my visit/photo shoot at Shore Restaurant on Saint Armand's, I decided to go during brunch. Every Sunday morning Shore serves Brunch from 10am-2pm. They have a life DJ and a crowd of people every weekend that come in just for the special brunch menu. Included below is a picture of the brunch menu, from Shore's website.  CRUNCHY CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST For brunch at Shore, I decided to go with something I usually wouldn't order. The Crunchy Challah French Toast is a beautiful plate of four pieces of french toast and seasonal fruit, topped with a scoop of house made whip cream. My usual brunch meal from Shore would include a Kale Salad or the Shore burger, but for the purpose of the photo shoot I decided to go with something that would look great on the cover of a magazine. The Challah French Toast is a beautiful plate that I knew would be cover worthy! PHOTO SHOOT PICTURES  When taking pictures of the Crunchy Challah Fre...

Search for Sarasota's Best Brunch!

Search for Sarasota's Best Brunch For my magazine, I decided to visit three of the best brunch (breakfast/lunch) restaurants in the Sun-coast area. Below are the names of the restaurants along with their address, and pictures from each of their websites. These pictures will not be included in the magazine. Photo shoots at each location will be set up and presented in a separate post. At each restaurant I plan to take pictures of my meal, along with the restaurant itself. Ratings and reviews will also be included into each individual post.   Oxford Exchange    420 W Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33602 Shore 465 John Ringling Blvd #200, Sarasota, FL 34236   Station 400   8215 Lakewood Main St Suite P103, Bradenton, FL 34202

EDIBLE SARASOTA COOKS! Edible Sarasota is a free magazine available in local restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, etc., that highlights Sarasota's local markets and restaurants. Their mission statement states that they " aim to connect consumers with these local growers, retailers, chefs, and food artisans, enabling those relationships to grow and thrive in a healthful, and economically viable way." Edible Sarasota claims that they are "part of a growing national movement throughout this country that is encouraging people to eat more locally-grown and locally-produced foods." COVER PAGE The cover page of this magazine highlights one of their main articles about Michael Saunders, a local real estate agent. The cover image is crisp and has very vibrant colors, that attract the reader. On the right hand side of the magazine the main article is displayed along with a few smaller ones. The use of the "+" to connect the article titles is a great addit...

Magazine Project Research- 4

TASTE OF HOME- AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2005 Taste of Home is a food magazine that focuses on practical "home cook book" recipes that are easy for their readers to duplicate. This magazine includes many easy-to-follow recipes, along with pictures of each dish. Taste of Home is a magazine targeted to the average person, who loves cooking  and food.    COVER PAGE This cover page is not one of my favorites. Because the magazine is from 2005, it has characteristics of an older magazine. The thick bold fonts make the magazine cover look unprofessional, when compared with newer magazines. The cover page does not appear as crisp as some of the newer magazines I looked at during my research. I would use this cover to make sure I do not use fonts like these when creating my own magazine. TABLE OF CONTENTS Even though this is an older magazine, I like how the table of contents is set up. The use of the larger numbers, along with the pictures, creates a unique look to the page. ...

Magazine Cover Draft

Image
FIRST DRAFT This first draft includes two article titles, along with a picture taken from Shore Restaurant on Saint Armand's Circle. Although I like the main cover photo, it is not my favorite. This cover is a great place to start but as the magazine comes together more I plan to redesign it. NEW DRAFT In this second draft, I decided to change the edition to "Brunch," instead of "Breakfast." After talking with my partner I decided that making a brunch magazine would allow me to display a lot more food options and recipes.
